Position: Homeless and Foster Care Parent Liaison 

 

Reports to:  Director of Student Learning and Literacy

 

Supervises: None

 

Qualifications:       

  1. High School diploma or GED required.
  2. Hold a valid driver’s license.
  3. Typing and computer experience in Google Docs and Sheets required.
  4. General office skills experience preferred.
  5. Satisfy all district requirements with regard to physical health and citizenship.
  6. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable. 

Position Goal:  Assure children experiencing homelessness and in foster care are fully integrated into the mainstream school setting and offered appropriate educational support. Efficiently perform the responsibilities assigned with a positive attitude. 

 

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  1. Screen telephone inquiries, respond to email requests, field department questions, and maintain records.
  2. Order, label, and distribute Title I materials to appropriate programs/sites. 
  3. Maintain appropriate service and support records and assist the Director of Student Learning and Literacy with completion of state and federal reports.
  4. Work closely with the Enrollment Center and Director of Student Learning and Literacy to support determination of students' homeless status and eligibility.
  5. Ensure homeless families and students and foster care students receive educational services and supports for which they are eligible.
  6. Arrange for Child Nutrition and Transportation according to Federal Laws, including providing student transport as needed.
  7. Monitor Homeless students' grades and arrange tutoring services, credit recovery, and/or summer school when needed.
  8. Ensure Homeless students have needed education supplies.
  9. Collaborate with the District Social Workers and Site Counselors regarding family needs.
  10. Collect, sort, maintain, and distribute supplies and clothes for homeless students.
  11. Participate and assist in facilitating Homeless training events.
  12. Perform other duties as assigned.

Employment Terms: Twelve (12) month classified hourly contract, forty (40) hours weekly. Salary and work year to be established by the Board.

Occasional Requirements: Reach with hands and arms overhead, above shoulder and horizontally; lift/move up to 40 pounds.

 

Visual Requirements:  Close, color, peripheral, depth perception, ability to adjust focus.

 

Hearing/Speaking Requirements:  Adequate to exchange information.
