Position: Native American Education Instructional Assistant
Reports to: Principal and Native American Education Coordinator
Supervises: None
Qualifications:
Tier 1:
- Bachelor's Degree required.
Tier 2:
- High School diploma or GED required.
- Satisfy Every Student Succeeds Act requirements by:
- Completed at least 2 years of study (48 hrs.) at an institution of higher ed, or
- Hold an associate’s degree or higher, or
- Obtained a National Career Readiness Certificate through successful completion of the ACT, WorkKeys Assessment, or passed the Paraprofessional Assessment Test - Passing Score is 455, or
- Passed the Oklahoma General Education (OGET) Test.
- Bilingual in English and other district prominent languages.
Continued Qualifications for Tier 1 and Tier 2:
- Good interpersonal and communication skills with students and adults required.
- Computer application skills required.
- Satisfy all district requirements with regard to physical health and citizenship.
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
Position Goal: Reinforce core subject instruction for Native American Education students within a variety of instructional settings.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
- Reinforcements of math, english, reading, social studies, science and other subjects.
- Works with Native American Education students to reinforce or remediate learning materials and skills initially introduced by the teacher.
- Assists in the supervision of Native American Education students.
- Checks notebooks, corrects papers, records attendance and grades, supervises testing and assessments, and maintains records as assigned by the teacher.
- Serves as a source of information and help to any substitute teacher assigned in the absence of the regular teacher or may be assigned as the substitute teacher.
- Maintains a level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students as is expected of certified teachers.
- Organizes, distributes, collects, and prepare materials, i.e. project materials, student manipulatives, etc.
- Collaborates with teachers in curricular areas.
- Assists with a variety of instructional situations.
- Assist with other assignments as may be designated by principal or lead teacher.
- Helps with Native American Education related cultural activites for school site and/or community.
- Follows Native American Education policy as established in the Native American Education Program & Precedures Handbook.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
Employment Terms: Nine (9) month classified hourly contract
