Position: Bus Assistant 

 

Reports to: Director of Transportation

 

Supervises: None

 

Qualifications:           

  1. High School diploma or GED required.
  2. Paraprofessional experience preferred.
  3. Satisfy all district requirements with regard to physical health and citizenship.
  4. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

Position Goal: To assist in providing safe transportation of special needs students to and from designated locations.

 

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  1. Assist bus driver in performing pre-trip inspections of vehicle before each route and post trip after each route.
  2. Maintain regular, reliable attendance and be punctual in arriving to work.
  3. Perform all physical duties of the job: pre-trip inspection, cleaning and sweeping of vehicle, assisting students on and off the school bus, securing wheelchairs and fasten all occupant restraining devices.
  4. Promote a positive image of the school district through proper dress, proper school bus operations and in dealing with parents, teachers, students and other district personnel.
  5. Assist driver to keep bus clean inside and out, including regular cleaning of windows.
  6. Adhere to all Jenks Public School Board policies and transportation department procedures.
  7. Maintain discipline on the bus and follow discipline plan for handling discipline problems on the school bus.
  8. Assist on any bus or route as assigned by the Director of Transportation or designee.
  9. Attend all in-service training classes.
  10. Assist bus driver in keeping route information updated.
  11. Keep all student information confidential.
  12. Assist bus driver in loading and unloading students in wheelchairs and properly secure all wheelchair equipment.
  13. Report any interior bus defects to be added to daily inspection sheet to the driver.
  14. Perform all other duties as assigned.

Work Environment:  While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works in temperatures above 100 degrees and below 32 degrees.  The employee may occasionally walk on wet or slippery surfaces. The employee must be able to meet deadlines with severe time constraints and interact with public and other co-workers.  The noise level is frequently loud enough that the employee must raise his/her voice to be heard. The employee has direct responsibility for the safety and well-being of others.

 

Employment Terms:  Nine (9) month classified hourly contact

Occasional Requirements:  Reach with hands and arms overhead, above shoulder and horizontally; lift/move up to 40 pounds.

 

Visual Requirements:  Close, color, peripheral, depth perception, ability to adjust focus.

 

Hearing/Speaking Requirements: Adequate to exchange information.
